  • 1 jalapeño, diced
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sandwich buns
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese or Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/4 cup pickled jalapeños
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Hot sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 cup crushed tortilla chips (optional)
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
  2. Add diced onion, garlic, and jalapeño. Cook until softened and fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook while breaking it apart with a spatula until browned.
  4. Stir in taco seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Chop and mix the beef mixture together directly in the skillet for a classic chopped texture.
  6. Lay slices of cheese over the beef mixture and allow them to melt completely.
  7. Toast the hoagie rolls or sandwich buns until lightly crisp.
  8. Fill each roll with the cheesy beef mixture.
  9. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, avocado slices, cilantro, salsa, sour cream, and pickled jalapeños.
  10. Add optional hot sauce or crushed tortilla chips if desired and serve hot with lime wedges.

Notes

  • Use pepper jack cheese for extra spice and flavor.
  • Ground turkey or chicken can replace ground beef for a lighter option.
  • Crushed tortilla chips add extra crunch inside the sandwich.
  • Store beef separately from toppings and bread for best freshness.
  • The beef mixture freezes well for up to 2 months.
  • Serve with fries, chips, or salsa on the side.
