Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
- Add diced onion, garlic, and jalapeño. Cook until softened and fragrant.
- Add the ground beef and cook while breaking it apart with a spatula until browned.
- Stir in taco seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
- Chop and mix the beef mixture together directly in the skillet for a classic chopped texture.
- Lay slices of cheese over the beef mixture and allow them to melt completely.
- Toast the hoagie rolls or sandwich buns until lightly crisp.
- Fill each roll with the cheesy beef mixture.
- Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, avocado slices, cilantro, salsa, sour cream, and pickled jalapeños.
- Add optional hot sauce or crushed tortilla chips if desired and serve hot with lime wedges.
Notes
- Use pepper jack cheese for extra spice and flavor.
- Ground turkey or chicken can replace ground beef for a lighter option.
- Crushed tortilla chips add extra crunch inside the sandwich.
- Store beef separately from toppings and bread for best freshness.
- The beef mixture freezes well for up to 2 months.
- Serve with fries, chips, or salsa on the side.
