Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar or honey
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ cup water or beef broth
  • Optional add-ins: 1 tsp fresh grated ginger, ½ tsp red pepper flakes, 2 tbsp chopped green onions, 1 tsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar or honey, water or broth, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add garlic (and ginger, if using) and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add broccoli and a splash of water. Cover and steam for 3–4 minutes until broccoli is bright green and slightly tender.
  5. Pour in the sauce, stir to combine, and cook for 2–3 more minutes until thickened and everything is evenly coated.
  6. Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, or extra sesame oil, if desired.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Use frozen broccoli (thawed) for convenience—just reduce steam time.
  • Double the sauce if serving over rice or noodles.
  • Add bell peppers or snap peas for extra crunch and variety.
  • For spice, add sriracha or red pepper flakes.
