- 12 oz egg noodles
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup cottage cheese or 4 oz cream cheese (optional)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
- Chopped parsley or green onions for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Add garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika; cook for 1 minute more.
- Stir in tomato sauce and simmer for 5–10 minutes to blend flavors.
- In a bowl, mix cooked noodles with sour cream and cottage cheese or cream cheese if using.
- Layer half the noodle mixture in the prepared baking dish, followed by half the beef mixture. Repeat layers.
- Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
- Cool slightly, garnish with parsley or green onions, and serve warm.
Notes
- Add green bell pepper or mushrooms for extra vegetables.
- Use cream cheese for a richer, tangier flavor.
- Spice it up with red pepper flakes or spicy tomato sauce.
- Top with crispy fried onions or breadcrumbs for a crunchy finish.
