Ingredients

  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup cottage cheese or 4 oz cream cheese (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • Chopped parsley or green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Add garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika; cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce and simmer for 5–10 minutes to blend flavors.
  5. In a bowl, mix cooked noodles with sour cream and cottage cheese or cream cheese if using.
  6. Layer half the noodle mixture in the prepared baking dish, followed by half the beef mixture. Repeat layers.
  7. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  8. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
  9. Cool slightly, garnish with parsley or green onions, and serve warm.
