Ingredients

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup granulated white sugar

¼ cup packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour

⅓ cup unsweetened baking cocoa

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1½ cups chocolate chunks

1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

Gently fold in the chocolate chunks and mini chocolate chips.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.

Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra crunch, add chopped nuts like walnuts, pecans, or almonds.

To make them thicker, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.

For a twist, try using dark chocolate chips or peanut butter chips.
