Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 3 cups cooked white rice
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef.
- Cook the beef while breaking it apart with a spoon until browned and fully cooked.
- Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet and cook briefly until fragrant.
- Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
- Mix well so the beef becomes evenly coated with the sauce.
- Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes until the sauce slightly thickens.
- Prepare serving bowls with warm cooked rice.
- Spoon the Korean-style beef mixture over the rice.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
- Add steamed broccoli, shredded carrots, or mushrooms for extra vegetables.
- Top the bowl with a fried egg for added richness.
- Reduce brown sugar if you prefer a less sweet sauce.
- Thinly sliced beef such as flank steak can replace ground beef.
- Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
