Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750 ml) red wine (such as Rioja, Garnacha, or Merlot)
  • 1 cup orange juice (fresh or bottled)
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 1 cup fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries)
  • 23 tbsp sugar or honey (optional, to taste)
  • 1 cup club soda or sparkling water (optional, for topping before serving)
  • Ice, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine orange slices, lemon slices, lime slices, diced apple, and berries.
  2. Add sugar or honey (if using) and gently muddle the fruit with a spoon to release juices.
  3. Add orange juice and red wine. Stir well to combine.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best flavor.
  5. Just before serving, stir in club soda or sparkling water for a light fizz. Serve over ice with some of the infused fruit in each glass.

Notes

  • Choose a fruity, medium-bodied red wine that isn’t too tannic.
  • Adjust sweetness by using less sugar or unsweetened orange juice.
  • Sangria improves with time—overnight chilling is ideal.
  • For a fun twist, add a splash of pomegranate juice or a cinnamon stick during fall.
