Ingredients
- 1 bottle (750 ml) red wine (such as Rioja, Garnacha, or Merlot)
- 1 cup orange juice (fresh or bottled)
- 1 orange, thinly sliced
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- 1 lime, thinly sliced
- 1 apple, diced
- 1 cup fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries)
- 2–3 tbsp sugar or honey (optional, to taste)
- 1 cup club soda or sparkling water (optional, for topping before serving)
- Ice, for serving
Instructions
- In a large pitcher, combine orange slices, lemon slices, lime slices, diced apple, and berries.
- Add sugar or honey (if using) and gently muddle the fruit with a spoon to release juices.
- Add orange juice and red wine. Stir well to combine.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best flavor.
- Just before serving, stir in club soda or sparkling water for a light fizz. Serve over ice with some of the infused fruit in each glass.
Notes
- Choose a fruity, medium-bodied red wine that isn’t too tannic.
- Adjust sweetness by using less sugar or unsweetened orange juice.
- Sangria improves with time—overnight chilling is ideal.
- For a fun twist, add a splash of pomegranate juice or a cinnamon stick during fall.
