Ingredients
- 8 oz pasta (spaghetti, fettuccine, or any long noodle)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 cups water or low-sodium broth (just enough to barely cover pasta)
- Fresh parsley or basil (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Place pasta in a large, deep skillet or saucepan. Add enough water or broth to just barely cover the pasta.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until pasta is al dente and most of the liquid is absorbed (about 9–11 minutes).
- Stir in the butter and minced garlic. Let the butter melt and mix with the starchy liquid to form a sauce.
- Remove the pan from heat and gradually stir in the grated parmesan until smooth and creamy.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Serve immediately, garnished with chopped parsley or basil if desired.
Notes
- Use freshly grated parmesan for best texture and flavor.
- Add-ins like chicken, bacon, or sautéed mushrooms work great for variety.
- For extra richness, stir in a splash of cream at the end.
- A squeeze of lemon juice can brighten the flavor.
- Top with toasted breadcrumbs or pine nuts for added texture.
