  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp light corn syrup or honey
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter (optional, for smoothness)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Line a small square pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, sugar, cornstarch, corn syrup (or honey), and salt.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth and glossy, about 10–15 minutes.
  4. Optional: Stir in the butter for extra richness and smooth texture.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  6. Allow to cool at room temperature or refrigerate for 1–2 hours until fully set.
  7. Once firm, cut into small squares or shapes.

  • Try lemon juice and zest for a tangier variation.
  • For a firmer texture, cook the mixture slightly longer.
  • Add a drop of natural food coloring for a vibrant appearance.
  • Store in layers separated by parchment to prevent sticking.
