Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper (optional), sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese or American cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sandwich buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for toasting rolls)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions and bell peppers until soft and caramelized. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, cook ground beef until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2–3 minutes.
  4. Return sautéed vegetables to the skillet and stir to combine.
  5. Place cheese slices over the beef mixture, cover the skillet, and let the cheese melt.
  6. Meanwhile, toast hoagie rolls with butter in a pan or under the broiler until golden.
  7. Fill each toasted roll with the cheesy beef and pepper mixture. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Switch up the cheese with cheddar, mozzarella, or cheese whiz.
  • Add mushrooms or jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • Make the filling ahead and store it for quick assembly later.
  • Toast rolls right before serving to keep them from getting soggy.
