Ingredients

  • 2 medium yellow onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives or parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the finely chopped onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 15–20 minutes. The onions should become soft, golden brown, and sweet.
  3. Remove the onions from heat and allow them to cool slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and softened cream cheese. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  5. Add the cooled caramelized onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  6. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  7. Stir in the chopped fresh chives or parsley.
  8. Refrigerate the dip for about 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, replace part of the sour cream with Greek yogurt.
  • Add grated parmesan cheese for a richer, savory flavor.
  • A pinch of smoked paprika can add a subtle smoky twist.
  • Serve with potato chips, crackers, sliced vegetables, or toasted bread.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Stir the dip before serving to refresh the texture.
