Ingredients
- 2 medium yellow onions, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
- 1 cup sour cream
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives or parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the finely chopped onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 15–20 minutes. The onions should become soft, golden brown, and sweet.
- Remove the onions from heat and allow them to cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and softened cream cheese. Stir until smooth and creamy.
- Add the cooled caramelized onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
- Stir in the chopped fresh chives or parsley.
- Refrigerate the dip for about 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend.
Notes
- For a lighter version, replace part of the sour cream with Greek yogurt.
- Add grated parmesan cheese for a richer, savory flavor.
- A pinch of smoked paprika can add a subtle smoky twist.
- Serve with potato chips, crackers, sliced vegetables, or toasted bread.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Stir the dip before serving to refresh the texture.
