Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture with melted butter, egg, and remaining sugar.
- Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place in a greased baking dish.
- Cover and let rise again for about 30 minutes until puffy.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes until lightly golden.
- Brush warm rolls with melted butter before serving.
Notes
- Make sure the milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
- Add garlic powder and herbs for a savory variation.
- Brush with honey butter for a slightly sweet version.
- Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top before baking for extra flavor.
- Store rolls at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Freeze baked rolls for up to 2 months.
