Ingredients
- 1 lb thinly sliced beef (sirloin, flank, or ribeye)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for cooking)
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar or honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- Optional toppings: chopped green onions, sesame seeds
- Serving suggestions: steamed rice, broccoli, bell peppers
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, cornstarch, water, and sesame oil to make the teriyaki sauce.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Sear the beef in batches until browned and just cooked through. Set aside.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the same skillet and simmer until it thickens, about 2–3 minutes.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for 1–2 minutes more.
- Serve hot over rice with steamed or sautéed vegetables. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- Partially freeze the beef for 30 minutes before slicing to make it easier to cut thinly.
- Store-bought teriyaki sauce works, but homemade is fresher and more customizable.
- Use gluten-free soy sauce or tamari for a gluten-free version.
- Add veggies like broccoli or bell peppers for a complete stir-fry meal.
- Leftovers reheat well with a splash of water in a skillet or microwave.
