Ingredients

  • 12 oz (about 3 cups) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (or use more water for a simpler version)
  • 1 tsp orange zest (optional)
  • 1 cinnamon stick or 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine cranberries, sugar, water, and orange juice.
  2. Stir gently and bring to a simmer.
  3. Cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in orange zest, cinnamon, or other optional flavorings.
  5. Let cool to thicken further. Serve warm or chilled.

Notes

  • Use frozen cranberries directly from the freezer—no need to thaw.
  • Customize with chopped apples, pears, nuts, or dried fruit for added texture.
  • Use maple syrup or honey as natural sweeteners.
  • Add red wine, port, rosemary, or thyme for depth and savory notes.
  • Stores well in the fridge for up to 7–10 days and freezes beautifully.
