Ingredients

  • For the bars:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • For the cinnamon swirl:
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • For the glaze:
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 23 tbsp milk or cream (to thin)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
  4. Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined.
  5. Spread batter evenly into prepared pan.
  6. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter for the swirl.
  7. Spoon cinnamon mixture over batter and swirl gently with a knife or toothpick.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until center is set and edges are golden. Let cool.
  9. Whisk cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and enough milk to make a pourable glaze.
  10. Drizzle glaze over cooled bars. Let it set before slicing.

Notes

  • Add chopped pecans to the swirl for crunch.
  • Use maple extract in the glaze for a twist.
  • Double the glaze and spread it like frosting for a more decadent version.
  • Freeze bars without glaze; thaw and glaze before serving.
  • Microwave for 10–15 seconds to refresh texture when serving leftovers.
