Ingredients
- For the bars:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- For the cinnamon swirl:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- For the glaze:
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2–3 tbsp milk or cream (to thin)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
- Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined.
- Spread batter evenly into prepared pan.
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter for the swirl.
- Spoon cinnamon mixture over batter and swirl gently with a knife or toothpick.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until center is set and edges are golden. Let cool.
- Whisk cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and enough milk to make a pourable glaze.
- Drizzle glaze over cooled bars. Let it set before slicing.
Notes
- Add chopped pecans to the swirl for crunch.
- Use maple extract in the glaze for a twist.
- Double the glaze and spread it like frosting for a more decadent version.
- Freeze bars without glaze; thaw and glaze before serving.
- Microwave for 10–15 seconds to refresh texture when serving leftovers.
