Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef (80/20)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup ketchup (plus more for topping)
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Optional toppings: sliced pickles, extra ketchup, burger sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, eggs, breadcrumbs, milk, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf and place in the prepared pan or on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- In the last 5 minutes, brush the top with ketchup and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Return to oven to melt.
- Let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Top with pickles or burger sauce if desired.
Notes
- Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Add diced pickles or relish to the meat mixture for tang.
- Swap cheddar with pepper jack or American cheese for a different flavor.
- Serve leftovers in sandwich form with toppings.
- Mini versions can be baked in a muffin tin for quicker cooking and portion control.
