Ingredients
- For the cookies:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
- For decoration:
- 1 cup green frosting or melted green candy melts
- Halloween sprinkles or edible eyeballs
- Mini M&M’s, candy pearls, or small round candies (for “bubbles”)
- Pretzel sticks or Pocky (optional, for “cauldron stir sticks”)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs and vanilla, then mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
- Stir in chocolate chips if using.
- Scoop dough into balls and slightly flatten on baking sheets.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, then cool completely on wire racks.
- Once cooled, top cookies with green frosting or melted candy melts.
- Decorate with candy bubbles, sprinkles, and edible eyes.
- Add a pretzel stick or Pocky piece as a cauldron “stirrer.”
- Let decorations set before serving or storing.
Notes
- Use different colored frostings (purple, orange, blue) for variety.
- Try black cocoa powder for extra spooky color.
- Slightly indent centers before baking to hold more “potion” filling.
- Freeze undecorated cookies for later decorating.
- Great as party favors or hands-on kid-friendly activity.
