  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • For decoration:
  • 1 cup green frosting or melted green candy melts
  • Halloween sprinkles or edible eyeballs
  • Mini M&M’s, candy pearls, or small round candies (for “bubbles”)
  • Pretzel sticks or Pocky (optional, for “cauldron stir sticks”)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs and vanilla, then mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Scoop dough into balls and slightly flatten on baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, then cool completely on wire racks.
  8. Once cooled, top cookies with green frosting or melted candy melts.
  9. Decorate with candy bubbles, sprinkles, and edible eyes.
  10. Add a pretzel stick or Pocky piece as a cauldron “stirrer.”
  11. Let decorations set before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Use different colored frostings (purple, orange, blue) for variety.
  • Try black cocoa powder for extra spooky color.
  • Slightly indent centers before baking to hold more “potion” filling.
  • Freeze undecorated cookies for later decorating.
  • Great as party favors or hands-on kid-friendly activity.
